Crossharbour, Tower Hamlets

The site

Crossharbour is located on the Isle of Dogs in the London Docklands area and is the site of the old London Arena, a large entertainments venue.  The development site is a mix of commercial areas to the west and north and residential to the east.

The Crossharbour site has planning permission to provide 1057 residential units (of which 253 units are affordable), plus retail units, offices, a hotel, health club and a community facility.

The affordable housing element comprises 218 units in Phase 1.

The scheme

High quality, mixed use, single tenure buildings are built around carefully designed public courtyards and a play area.

The palate of materials used include granite with glass and steel for the residential block with brick and reconstructed stone façades for public amenity at ground and first floor levels.

10% of the affordable units are built to wheelchair housing standards and 10% of the private units are wheelchair adaptable. All apartments are being built to Lifetime Homes standard.

The deal

MHP signed a three year partnership agreement with Ballymore Properties in October 2006.  Under this agreement, MHP has worked with Ballymore at the design stage of the project in return for an option to acquire the affordable units developed on the scheme.

Crossharbour is the first of such schemes.

Crossharbour achieved planning permission in October 2007.
